- Obama "talks white"? Why is it anytime a black person speaks with proper annunciation, diction and grammar, that person is considered to be "talking white"? That if a person articluates an idea with clarity and perfect vocabulary, that person is "talking white"? Only white people talk that way? Since when is proper English related to one's race? So my Korean co-worker who speaks proper English is "talking white" too?
- "Ghettos"? Is that term still even used anymore? Not good when someone who is for progressive policies uses a word pulled from the last century. All I know is "The Projects" and "The 'Hood" is common terminology for what used to be called the ghetto.
- And since when is Nader an expert on urban issues that blacks are concerned about? And why should Obama focus so much on these issues? Is he not running for President of the United States? He needs to be concerned about issues for all Americans. But according to Nader, that means he has to "talk white" to do that. I didn't know gas prices, healthcare, the war in Iraq, and education where white-only issues.
- And if Nader was so progressive, he'd use Google to research and find out that Obama HAS addressed the very issues he says he hasn't heard him address already. Within this calendar year in fact (as this person was able to find with Google).
- "He wants to appeal to white guilt. You appeal to white guilt not by coming on as black is beautiful, black is powerful." Did it ever occur to Nader that Obama is half white and maybe he is appealing to simply the concerns of all Americans? Sure Nader may only see Obama as black, but nobody ever asks Obama how he sees himself. Maybe Obama sees himself as neither black or white and as such he doesn't have to appeal to only black or white voters. Maybe Obama sees himself as a President for all Americans and doesn't box himself into any one set of issues (i.e Civil Rights) the way Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton are categorized by many people.
- And why is it that McCain gets a free pass on all of this nonsense? Because McCain is white, he shouldn't be concerned with what goes on in the "ghetto"? He shouldn't be concerned with black voters period? When Bill Clinton was appealing to the issues of black voters, was he "talking black"? Puhlease.
Okay, I'm done ranting.
